COVID-19 Information:
June 19, 2020 – Heart of Virginia COVID-19 Summer Camp Update
The Heart of Virginia Council, Adventure Camp and Camp T. Brady Saunders has worked very hard to provide an outdoor experience for this summer. Unfortunately, it is not legal to operate a Summer Camp program under COVID-19 phase 2 and 3.
However, we are dedicated to providing our Scouts and all Scouts with a program this summer. Although Camp T. Brady Saunders and Adventure Camp cannot operate there are still programs we can provide.
Camp T. Brady Saunders has rolled out an online merit badge program. These programs are limited to 25 Scouts per session and they have been approved by the Council Advancement committee. You can find more information about these at the Council website www.hovc.org click on the council calendar link and you will find all the class available.
We are developing our Virtual Day Camp for our Cub Scouts. It will be a series of videos that engage most aspects of Day Camp while providing it virtually. We will have registration information online by Monday. It includes a kit mailed to you with most of the program materials needed to complete the online video modules. We are excited to offer this new opportunity.
We are able under the Phase 2 and Phase 3 restrictions to offer day programs at the Heart of Virginia Scout Reservation. If you unit would like a day program we can offer you an opportunity in Shooting Sports, STEM, Nature, Aquatics, Fishing, or a program designed to meet you units need. Please contact hovcweekendadventures@gmail.com or mic.mullins@scouting.org if you would like to arrange one of these experiences.
Lastly, we have entered into a partnership with the Summit at the Camp Justice Scout Camp to offer our Troops, and all Troops previously registered for Scout camp to have an opportunity to participate in their COVID-19 program at a discount. Instead of the normal fee of $425 you Scouts can register through HOVC for a fee of only $325. You can register using the following link. https://scoutingvirginia.doubleknot.com/event/space-available/james-c-justice-national-scout-camp-2020/66320.
We are excited to find alternative options for our Units to continue Scouting this summer. These are unprecedented times. I hope your summer is a great one and I look forward to seeing you out at camp again soon!
Sincerely,
Mic Mullins | Program Director

June 11, 2020 – Heart of Virginia COVID-19 Summer Camp Update
The Heart of Virginia Council and Camp T. Brady Saunders have been working very hard to provide an outdoor experience for this summer. When we began planning our Summer Camp program under COVID-19 restrictions we had two basic requirements: the program must be safe and comply with all applicable regulations. Unfortunately, our alternative plan to rent campsites to our Troops and have Troops remain together has been denied by the Goochland Health Department.
We are working the Governor’s office to find a solution. However, it appears that unless we are granted an exemption or Virginia moves into Phase 3 (assuming phase 3 allows for overnight camping), we will not be able to operate a summer outdoor experience this summer.
We will be making a final decision on June 19, 2020. If it is safe and legal to move forward, we will launch our reservation platform on that date. These are unprecedented times and we have all had to make decisions that are difficult while protecting our Scouts and Leaders.
We will not be hosting any events this summer at Cub Camp until we enter Phase.
